5/13/11 newsletter

Little Scotties Scoop

May 13, 2011

Monday we watched a video clip about birds and then went outside to collect items we could use to make a nest. Each child made a 'nest' with his/her found materials. We used 'goop' to hold our nests together. We have also talked about the beginning sounds in words. We read The Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown and played a rhyming game with farm animals that worked on beginning sounds. We have worked with masking tape and squeeze glue this week to make collages. Half the class planted corn today. The other half will plant corn on Monday. We will be observing our corn to see how it changes in these last few weeks of
school.

Our classroom received a very generous donation for the Book Fair. This enabled every child to be able to get a book from the book fair. We are very thankful to our benefactors who made this possible for our class.

Next Friday is field day. We will be using the inflatables for about an hour that day. The rest of our activities will be on our preschool classroom. We are hoping for nice weather that day!

Our PTO has purchased a school shirt for everyone to wear for field day. We will send them home when they come in next week.

Next week will be our last week for book check out and homework kits! If you have any books at home that belong to our classroom, please send them back next week!

Mark your calendars. The last day of preschool will be on Friday, May 27. Our preschool program will be on that day at 11:00!

After school care will be in Ms. Jenniffer's classroom next week.

Keep practicing the popcorn letters or words with your child. Everything you need is in your child's Bee Book. We are now working on a new sight word each week. Several kids that are working on letters got a few more letters added. Please work on this at home to support what we are doing in the classroom.
Popcorn words: the, and, you, for, on, it, in.

Our class blog address is http://msgenellesamclass.blogspot.com/. Please check it out!

On Fridays we will be sending nap blankets, etc., home so you can wash them and send them back each Monday. We are going to try keeping the water bottles at school during the week and send them home on Fridays as well.

If you need to contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school at 659-0432 after 1:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the office staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
