Little Scotties Scoop
April 29, 2011
We began studying the illustrations of Ed Emberley this week. We looked at several of his books, visited his website (http://www.edemberley.com/) and watched a video in which he teaches how he makes his illustrations. We have practiced making monsters and animals like his.
Everyone has worked on wood scrap sculptures and has been painting his/her sculptures. Some children have worked on using watercolors to make illustrations for their books in writer's workshop.
Mark your calendars. The last day of preschool will be on Friday, May 27. Our preschool program will be on that day at 11:00!
After school care will be in Ms. Jenniffer's classroom next week.
Today Mr. Ron, from the Kentucky Repretory Theatre, was here to do an activity with our class. He told us the story of Coyote the Firebringer and the kids acted out the story. I will get it on the blog this weekend.
We had originally planned to watch a dress rehearsal of the play Fairy Tale Courtroom on Thursday. We had a scheduling conflict so on Monday we will be going to GHS to see the entire play! We are very excited about this opportunity!
We also had to reschedule our May fieldtrip, which was originally later in the month. We just got everything approved this week. We will be visiting a farm near Eastern Elementary on Wednesday. We will be spending most of the day there. We will be having a hay ride, feeding baby animals, planting seeds, and checking out a tractor. Anyone who wishes to go MUST have a background check on file with our school district.
Keep practicing the popcorn letters or words with your child. Everything you need is in your child's Bee Book. We are now working on a new sight word each week. Several kids that are working on letters got a few more letters added. Please work on this at home to support what we are doing in the classroom.
Popcorn words: the, and, you, for, on
Our class blog address is http://msgenellesamclass.blogspot.com/. Please check it out!
On Fridays we will be sending nap blankets, etc., home so you can wash them and send them back each Monday. We are going to try keeping the water bottles at school during the week and send them home on Fridays as well.
If you need to contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school at 659-0432 after 1:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the office staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
