Little Scotties Scoop

October 14, 2011

We introduced 2 new materials this week. We have learned to use staplers and masking tape. We read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf  by Lois Ehlert and painted with fall colors and will be adding those colors of paint to our art center. We are continuing to work on letter names and sounds the letters make. We watched the movie A Boy, A Dog and A Frog based on the wordless book by Mercer Mayer. We then looked at the book and have written our own story to go with Mercer Mayer’s illustrations.

Our classroom is in need of lysol wipes. We use them to clean the headphones at the computer between children. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

If you have not sent in long pants and a long-sleeved shirt for your child’s extra change of clothes as school, please send it next week. Don’t forget to we need underwear and socks too!

Next Friday, October 21, will be our ice cream Friday for October.

If you haven’t sent in $.50 for your child, send it in before next Friday. Our Scholastic book order for our classroom will also be due that day.

Monday, October 17, we will visit Dennison’s Roadside Market. We take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and each child selects a pumpkin. We have a picnic there, go through a hay maze, and feed the animals while we are there. We will be using the pumpkins during that week for several classroom activities. Your
child will bring his/her pumpkin home at the end of the week. If you have not sent $5.00 for your child, please send it Monday. If you are planning to go with us, you MUST have an approved background check on file. Contact Ms. Genelle if you want to go.

On Monday, October 31, we will be visiting Barren County Health Care and the Glasgow Board of Education to trick or treat. Your child will need to bring his/her costume to school. After breakfast, each child will put his/her costume on over their clothes. When we return to school, we will put the costumes
back in the backpacks. NO makeup or weapons are allowed. We will not be having a Halloween party in the classroom. This trick or treat trip will be our only Halloween activity.

If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation
