9/30/11 newsletter

Little Scotties Scoop

September 30, 2011

This week we have introduced computers and our interactive board. We used the website http://www.bemboszoo.com/ on our board. The kids really liked it! We worked in our journals this week and
drew pictures of what we saw at the butterfly garden and of the things we collected there, including a frog, buckeyes, an acorn, and caterpillars.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out at the butterfly garden. We hiked through the woods to go wading in a creek. This is where we found the frog and one of our caterpillars. We had a short lesson on the life cycle of a butterfly and toured a small butterfly garden. We also had a picnic and visited a small pond where we saw koi fish and a big frog. A lot of kids got pretty wet in the creek. Many of them used their extra set of clothes that we had at school. Since we will be having cooler weather anyway, this is a good time to send in a long sleeved shirt and long pants. Don’t forget to we need underwear and socks too.

Mr. Harper visited our class Tuesday and read a book about following the rules. They played Simon Says to practice listening. He will be visiting our class monthly to do activities with our students.

October 3-7 is fall break!

Monday, October 17, we will visit Dennison’s Roadside Market. We take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and each child selects a pumpkin. We have a picnic there, go through a hay maze, and feed the animals while we are there. We will be using the pumpkins during that week for several classroom activities. Your
child will bring his/her pumpkin home at the end of the week. Each child needs to bring in $5.00 by Friday, October 14.

If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
