This week we have talked about alliteration and what that means. The same sound repeated in several words (i.e. Aunt Annie’s Alligator or Silly Sally). We have a class book with each child’s name and symbol used in an alliteration in a song. We looked at the wordless book, Changes Changes, and talked about the story happening in the illustrations. The characters use blocks to build different things in the story (house, fire truck, boat, truck, and train). We used the same blocks to see what we could build. We used paper blocks to make a class book about what we build with blocks. We have used catapults made with clothespins, tongue depressors, and bottle caps to send pompoms to hit our ‘target’. We talked about using rulers or bean counters to measure the distance from the pompom to the bullseye. We used ramps and predicted what things would roll or not roll down. We are reading The Jolly Postman and are making different types of mail like what the postman delivers. The kids want to make mailboxes so we are collecting shoe boxes to make mailboxes for our mail.
For St. Patrick’s Day we made ‘green’ cupcakes!
Spring pictures and class pictures will be on Tuesday, March 20. Don’t wear green!
Preschool/Kindergarten registration will be on Saturday, March 24 from 8:00-12:00. If your child goes on to kindergarten you really need to bring them in if possible. You will need to complete some paperwork but will NOT need to bring in shot records, birth certificate, physical, etc. We will pass those records on. The
children will be able to visit kindergarten classrooms. If your child is returning to preschool, you do NOTHING. We will be holding a spot for your child and there is NO need to register. If you know someone with a preschool-aged child, please tell them about our program and encourage them to come to our registration!
Our Easter egg hunt will be on Friday, March 30. Our hunt will begin at 11:00 on our playground (weather permitting). I need parents to be at school by 10:50 to hide the eggs. We only have a limited amount of time for our hunt before the next class will need the same area for hiding their eggs. Each child needs to send in 10-12 eggs with WRAPPED candy. On that day, each child needs to bring a basket with his/her name on it.
Spring Break is the week of April 2-6! Enjoy!
If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
