April 13, 2012 newsletter

This week everyone finished up our Pancakes for Breakfast class books. Yesterday we made butter to put on the pancakes that we cooked today. It was delicious! We have been talking a lot about dinosaurs to be ready for next week’s fieldtrip to Dinosaur World. We made a list of what we already know about dinosaurs and what questions we had. We have viewed video clips on the Discovery Channel’s website and have looked at nonfiction books to answer some of our questions. Some students made their own nonfiction books about dinosaurs. We used tools and warm water to excavate dinosaurs that were frozen in ice. After reading Grow Flower Grow, we planted our own flowers seeds.

Monday, April 16, we will be eating breakfast in our classrooms as the 4th and 5th grade students will be using the cafe that morning. We will meet in the cafe until 7:30 then we will be going to our classrooms. Ms. Jenniffer Fudge will be waiting in the front foyer to greet any students who come in after 7:30. If she is not there, please wait as she is walking other preschool students to their classrooms and will be right back to meet you.

On Wednesday, April 18, we will take a fieldtrip to Dinosaur World in Cave City. We will be having a sack lunch picnic while we are there. Each child will need to bring in $5.00 before the 17th. Any adults who want to go with us must have an approved background check on file with our school district and must also pay the $5.00 admission fee. I will also need adult fees before the 17th. Siblings may not go with us on this trip.

Friday, April 20, will be ice cream Friday! Please send in $.50 for your child!

We are also participating with the rest of our school in Butterflies for Maddie. Any child who brings in $.50 will get to hang a butterfly with his/her name on it on our classroom door. The classroom with the most butterflies gets a PIZZA party!

Next week our school library is hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. We will be visiting and making our wish lists. Please be watching your child’s Bee Book for his/her list!

Our April parent meeting will be on Tuesday, April 24, at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Our topic will focus on dinosaurs and activities for you to do with your child.

If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
