Little Scotties Scoop
September 16, 2011
We had a lot of fun with our teddy bears. When we came into the classroom Monday morning, we saw that our bears had gotten into things in our room over the weekend! At reader’s workshop we talked about how our bears were the same and different. We graphed them by bear/not a bear and bears with clothes, bears
with a ribbon, and bears with no clothes.
We read The Cool Bear Hunt and sang that song by Dr. Jean and we learned a different version of the Bear Hunt by Greg and Steve. We made a list of all the places in each bear hunt version and found that the only place that was the same was the cave. We have our lists hanging in our library center.
We also did hamster observations with our class pet, Mack. We drew Mack and talked about what we know about hamsters. We used the pictures from last week’s bear hunt to make a class book about all the places we found our bears. We learned how to use bingo markers and made art with our dots. Everyone got to help us act out 5 Teddy Bears Jumping on the Bed and we put our bear props into the house center to use.
Our first fieldtrip will be Monday, September 19, at 9:30 (leaving school around 9:10). We will be going to Edie Bell’s butterfly garden. We will also be going wading in a creek. Your child will need water shoes for this trip and a towel with his/her name on it. Any adults wanting to go with us MUST have an approved
background check on file. NO siblings may go. Contact Ms. Genelle if you want to tag along with us. We will be eating a picnic lunch there.
Our first ice cream Friday will be on September 23. Please send in $.50 for your child by that date.
I am hoping to start our homework kit rotation next week. I need a volunteer who could come every Friday (anytime) and go through the kits to make sure everything is in them and that they are ready to go out the next Monday. The parent that did it last year was here between 30-45 minutes. If this would work for
your schedule, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer!
If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
