9/9/2011 newsletter

Little Scotties Scoop

September 9, 2011

Even though it was a short week, it was a really busy week!  We started our book exchange Tuesday. Check the Bee Book for a book to read with your child each night Monday through Thursday. Homework kits will start in rotation over the next few weeks.

We have read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Everyone brought in bears today for several activities. Our bears got loose in school and we used binoculars that the kids decorated to go on our own ‘bear hunt’throughout the school to track down our bears.

We had lots of grandparents visit our classroom today. Thanks for giving us the addresses to send the children’s invitations to.

We practiced writing in journals this week and will be drawing/writing in them often to document each child’s progress. We spent time observing our turtles and documenting how they look and what we know about turtles.

Our first fieldtrip will be Monday, September 19, at 9:30 (leaving school around 9:10). We will be going to Edie Bell’s butterfly garden. We will also be going wading in a creek. Your child will need water shoes for this trip. Any adults wanting to go with us MUST have an approved background check on file. NO siblings
may go. Contact Ms. Genelle if you want to tag along with us.

We will be eating a picnic lunch there. Our first ice cream Friday will be on September 23. Please send
in $.50 for your child by that date. Book order information went home in Bee Books yesterday. I use the bonus points I earn from your orders to get books for our classroom. We use these in our library center, for the book check out, and in the homework kits your child will be bringing home this school year. Ordering books for your child to have at home gets books for our classroom so it’s a win-win situation. Even if it’s just the $1 books (which are always good books), its a great opportunity.

If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
