Little Scotties Scoop
September 23, 2011
We have worked on learning letters with several activities. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and watched the movie. We have spent the last few weeks observing a caterpillar and then his chrysalis or pupa. Yesterday when we got to school our butterfly had emerged. We let it go and watched it fly away. We videoed this and I’m hoping to get it on the blog. In the book Butterflies by Gail Gibbons we read about
butterflies laying their eggs on milkweed plants. We looked at the milkweed that grows in our butterfly garden and explored the seed pods. To continue our research we have watched butterfly videos on National Geographics website and at http://www.lifecycle.onenessbecomesus.com/.
Everyone learned how to use a tape dispenser this week. We taped LOTS of stuff on paper!
Each day I have a short morning message written for the class. This week they started writing their own messages on dry erase boards. Three students share their messages with the class everyday.
Our fieldtrip is rescheduled for Wednesday, September 28, at 9:30 (leaving school around 9:10). Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time. We will be going to Edie Bell’s butterfly garden. We will also be going wading in a creek. Your child will need water shoes for this trip and a towel with his/her name on it. Any adults wanting to go with us MUST have an approved background check on file. NO siblings may go. Contact Ms. Genelle if you want to tag along with us. We will be eating a picnic lunch there.
Next Friday, September 30, is picture day. Do NOT wear green.
October 3-7 is fall break!
Monday, October 17, we will visit Dennison’s Roadside Market. We take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and each child selects a pumpkin. We have a picnic there, go through a hay maze, and feed the animals while we are there. We will be using the pumpkins during that week for several classroom activities. Your
child will bring his/her pumpkin home at the end of the week.
IMPORTANT: If you are bringing your child to school instead of sending them on the bus, you MUST park in the front parking lot and walk your child into the cafe and leave your child with the preschool staff. Preschoolers are NOT to be dropped off in front of the building. This policy is for your child’s safety.
If you need you contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school, 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00 or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the school staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as
possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
