In our writer's workshop, one group of students worked together to make several books. They have been looking at books that were made from songs we sing in the classroom. The other group started working on individual books. We have a counting book, several stories about friends in the classroom, and several versions of Beauty and the Beast. As each book is finished, the author will share his/her book with the class.
We read The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. We compared and contrasted the two versions of the story. I brought in 3 boxes and the kids painted them for the 3 pig houses (video clips will be uploaded this weekend). Next week we will be working on setting up our house center to act out the story with our houses. This is a continuation of our study of fairy tales.
Thanks to everyone who sent in band aids. We now need paper plates. The kids are making tons of stuff (lots of fairy wings) and we need plates! Just the cheap plain white paper plates will be fine. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
After school care will be in Ms. Kim's classroom next week.
Don't forget that spring break is April 4-8. Make sure to check your child's Bee Book for the amended school calendar.
Keep practicing the popcorn letters or words with your child. Everything you need is in your child's Bee Book. We are now working on a new sight word each week. This week's word was 'the'. Several children have been busy this week looking for it in books.
Our class blog address is http://msgenellesamclass.blogspot.com/. Please check it out! I added a really great 'music' video of the kids singing I Gotta Feelin' last week. Over the weekend I will be downloading several video clips from this week. I hope that everyone visits our blog to stay posted on what's going on in the classroom.
On Fridays we will be sending nap blankets, etc., home so you can wash them and send them back each Monday. We are going to try keeping the water bottles at school during the week and send them home on Fridays as well.
If you need to contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school at 659-0432 after 1:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the office staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
