Little Scotties Scoop
March 25, 2011
We had our first book finished this week in writer's workshop! Everyone is working hard on either group books or individual books.
We read The Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen (makes a pizza). We have compared the 2 stories. We all worked on maps with The Jolly Postman. Some students drew maps to show the postman how to get to their homes and gave me the directions for how to get there. We read Mouse Paint and mixed colors to see what new colors we could make.
Our school is collecting pennies to send to the tsumani/earthquake victims in Japan. We discussed this in class. The kids were wanting to know what a tsunami was so we talked about what it was. I found some vidoe clips for them to watch to better understand what had happened in Japan. We are collecting money through next Friday. We have a container in our classroom that we are trying to fill. Send any spare change you have in your child's Bee Book in the money pouch.
We are completely out of paper plates and we are on our last kleenex boxes. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
After school care will be in Ms. Jenniffer's classroom next week.
Don't forget that spring break is April 4-8.
We will have a fieldtrip to Dinosaur World on Wednesday, April 13. The cost for each child/adult that goes is $5. This will be great to expand on our classroom research and discussions about dinosaurs. Any adults that wish to go need to contact Ms. Genelle. We MUST have an approved background check on file for any adults that go. ALL money must be turned in by Tuesday, April 12.
The week of April 10-April 16 is designated as The Week of the Young Child by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We will be partnering with PBI Bank to have an art exhibit of the children's work. We will be setting the exhibit up on the afternoon of April 11 and it will be up the entire week. We will be talking with your child about what an art exhibit is. Please try to go by there to see the exhibit with your child. Invite all your friends and family to go by!
Keep practicing the popcorn letters or words with your child. Everything you need is in your child's Bee Book. We are now working on a new sight word each week. Several kids that are working on letters got a few more letters added. Please work on this at home to support what we are doing in the classroom. Popcorn words: the, and

O Fridays we will be sending nap blankets, etc., home so you can wash them and send them back each Monday. We are going to try keeping the water bottles at school during the week and send them home on Fridays as well.
If you need to contact me, please email me at genelle.jones@glasgow.kyschools.us or call me at school at 659-0432 after 1:00. If you call at any other times during the school day, please leave a message with the office staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority, however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their needs in the classroom. I will return your calls as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
