4/1/2010 newsletter

This week we have practiced reading environmental print with restaurant logos from the Glasgow area. We explored natural objects (shells, rosehips, nuts, rocks, wood) and talked about where they come from in nature. We watched the movie The Dot and learned about what an art show was. We made different kinds of 'dot' art for our exhibit on the Week of the Young Child. Some kids started working with magnets today. We used rhythm sticks to practice tapping out a steady beat to nursery rhymes. We also read The Three Billy Goats Gruff and acted out the story.


Thanks to everyone who sent in money for the tsunami victims. We had several kids that got money from their piggy banks. I didn't count all the pennies but our container certainly was HEAVY!

After school care will be in Ms. Genelle's classroom week.

Don't forget that spring break is April 4-8. NO SCHOOL NEXT WEEK!

We will have a fieldtrip to Dinosaur World on Wednesday, April 13. The cost for each child/adult that goes is $5. This will be great to expand on our classroom research and discussions about dinosaurs. Any adults that wish to go need to contact Ms. Genelle. We MUST have an approved background check on file for any adults that go. ALL money must be turned in by Tuesday, April 12, this includes the chaperone movie.

The week of April 10-April 16 is designated as The Week of the Young Child by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We will be partnering with PBI Bank to have an art exhibit of the children's work. We will be setting the exhibit up on the afternoon of April 11 and it will be up the entire week. We will be talking with your child about what an art exhibit is. Please try to go by there to see the exhibit with your child. Invite all your friends and family to go by!

Keep practicing the popcorn letters or words with your child. Everything you need is in your child's Bee Book. We are now working on a new sight word each week. Several kids that are working on letters got a few more letters added. Please work on this at home to support what we are doing in the classroom. Popcorn words: the, and, you

On Fridays we will be sending nap blankets, etc., home so you can wash them and send them back each Monday. We are going to try keeping the water bottles at school during the week and send them home on Fridays as well.
